National Young Farmers Coalition

The National Young Farmers Coalition was founded in 2010 to create a unified voice that wasn’t being heard in D.C. Young and Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) farmers did not have a seat at the table in federal farm policy discussions. They wanted to ensure that the next generation of farmers, who have innovative ideas and face unique challenges, was shaping the conversation about how the food and agriculture systems in the U.S. could be improved. Juan became involved with the Coalition in 2024 as a recipient of their Chipotle Seed Grant, and in 2025, Juan became a 2025-2026 Root and Bloom fellow with the National Young Farmers Coalition. Thanks to the NYFC, Juan was able to work towards being appointed as a Deputy Commissioner for his Soil and Water Conservation District. Since then, Juan has also served as an applicant reviewer and is actively supporting regional gatherings with farmers.
